Sketching and hand drawing are part of the P+A culture. We start our design process with felt pens and tracing paper. This allows us to explore many different options, respond to new input and ideas and synthesize large amounts of information into preferred solutions. Process sketches are often used as part of the presentation of our work to clients and the public. We find that this instills a deeper understanding of the thinking behind the design and the designer’s process. We also like to sketch while travelling abroad or exploring our own city. This allows us to more fully understand the composition of elements in the landscape we are viewing and to apply this knowledge to our professional activities as Landscape Architects.
