P+A  were the landscape architects for Sovereign, a mixed-use tower and podium project located at the corner of Willingdon Avenue and Kingsway in Burnaby. This project features a 35-storey mixed use residential and hotel tower over a 4-storey commercial podium.

The landscape design at grade introduces a new City of Burnaby standard public realm furniture and materials palette.  An urban plaza and greenway, with a linear public art installation, transitions the building to its urban context. The art installation integrates with the greenway landscape design and turns a former narrow street into a unique public pedestrian amenity.  The podium rooftop features an ‘intensive’ green roof with both residential and hotel patios. A series of ‘extensive’ green roofs at various levels provides visual interest from the tower above and from adjacent towers.
